How Much Does a Wix Designer Cost? Freelancer vs Agency vs Wix Studio
What a Wix designer charges in 2026 — Wix Marketplace and freelancer rates, Wix Partner agency prices, what Wix Studio changes, the plan underneath it all and the three-year total for each route.

( The Short Answer )
A Wix designer costs $50–$150 an hour or $500–$10,000 per project in 2026. Marketplace freelancers charge $500–$2,500 to build a site from a template, Wix Partner agencies $1,000–$10,000 for a Wix Studio build with custom layouts and Velo code, and our fixed-price packages run $349 to $1,299. The Wix Core plan adds $29 a month, so three years costs roughly $1,400 to $11,400 all in. The full website cost guide has every other platform.
Wix has two editors now, and that is the first thing to understand about the price. The classic Wix editor is what most freelancers on the Wix Marketplace and Fiverr build in. Wix Studio is the editor Wix built for agencies — responsive by default, with CSS grid, custom breakpoints and a code layer — and the people who use it charge accordingly.
Here is what each route costs in 2026, what the plan underneath adds, and the three-year total for all of them.
What a Wix designer charges in 2026
| Who | Hourly | Per project | Typical scope |
|---|---|---|---|
| Marketplace or Fiverr freelancer | $50 – $100 | $500 – $2,500 | Template build in the classic editor, your content placed, launched in one to two weeks |
| Wix Partner agency (Wix Studio) | $75 – $150 | $1,000 – $10,000 | Custom layouts, animations, Velo code, a project manager; large studios quote far higher |
| Velo developer, hourly | $50 – $150 | Per feature | Custom forms, databases, integrations the App Market does not cover |
| American Web Guild (fixed price) | n/a | $349 – $1,299 | Custom design in Wix Studio, copy written, first concept in 48–72 hours, live in 14 days |
The marketplace numbers come from Wix's own hire-a-professional listings, where 'starting at' prices on a single results page run from under $50 to $2,200, and from designers who report charging $50–$100 an hour for small jobs and $2,500–$5,000 for a full site. Agency figures are from Wix Partner package pages, which commonly start around $1,000 and climb to $3,000 for advanced builds before any custom work.
As with every platform, the spread is scope. A $600 marketplace build is a template with your words in it. A $5,000 Studio build is a layout nobody else has, built to behave on every screen size, with the booking or store logic set up properly.
What Wix Studio changes about the price
Wix Studio is free for the agency to use — Wix monetises it by having the client buy a standard premium plan per site — so the Studio premium you pay is entirely the designer's time, not a platform fee. It is real time: Studio sites are built with responsive behaviours and often custom code rather than the classic editor's fixed-pixel canvas, which takes longer and needs more skill. Expect a Studio quote to be roughly 1.5 to 3 times a classic-editor quote for the same page count, and expect the result to hold up on mobile without the overlapping-elements problem the classic editor is known for.
If a freelancer quotes you $800 for a 'Studio build', ask to see a Studio site they shipped. The two editors produce visibly different results.
The Wix plan underneath
| Plan | Per month (annual) | Sells online? | Storage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Light | $17 | No | 2 GB |
| Core | $29 | Yes | 50 GB |
| Business | $39 | Yes | 100 GB |
| Business Elite | $159 | Yes | Unlimited |
Core is the cheapest plan that takes payments, so a service business with a booking or payment form is on $29 a month, and a store with real volume is on Business at $39. Wix's plans page shows the figures; Website Builder Expert's 2026 Wix pricing guide notes that monthly billing runs up to 40% higher. Either way the plan outlasts the designer's invoice, which is why it belongs in the table below.
The three-year total
| Route | Design | Plan, 3 years | Three-year total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Do it yourself | $0 + 20–40 hours | $1,044 | $1,044 in cash |
| Marketplace freelancer | $500 – $2,500 | $1,044 | $1,544 – $3,544 |
| Wix Partner agency, Studio | $1,000 – $10,000 | $1,404 | $2,404 – $11,404 |
| American Web Guild package | $349 – $1,299 | $1,044 | $1,393 – $2,343 |
The Wix versus custom comparison runs the same maths against a custom build, where the plan column is replaced by hosting at $60–$200 a year. The short version: a cheap designer on Wix and a fixed-price custom build cost about the same over three years, and the lines cross after that.
What moves a Wix quote
- Classic editor or Studio. The single biggest variable, for the reasons above.
- Page count and unique layouts. Ten pages on three layouts is cheaper than six pages that each look different.
- Velo code. Any custom database, form logic or integration is developer time at $50–$150 an hour, quoted separately.
- Apps. Wix App Market subscriptions — bookings, reviews, pop-ups — add $5–$50 a month each and are rarely in the design quote.
- Copy and photos. Supplied copy saves $150–$400 a page. Template sites look like templates when the photos are stock.
When to hire a Wix designer, and when to do it yourself
Do it yourself when
- The site is under six pages, you have decent photos, and Wix's AI builder or a template gets you most of the way.
- You will edit it weekly. Wix's editor is good, and if you are in it constantly, you will learn it anyway.
- The budget is under $500. Spend it on the plan and a stock-photo licence, not on a rushed designer.
Hire when
- You need Studio-grade responsiveness, animations or a layout a template cannot produce.
- There is Velo work: a quote calculator, a members area, a CRM integration.
- You are selling, and the store or booking flow has to be right the first time.
- Your time is worth more than $50 an hour. At 30 hours, the DIY route costs more than most freelancers.
What we charge for Wix design
Our Wix website design service uses the same fixed packages as every platform we build on: $349 for three pages, $689 for ten and $1,299 for fifteen, designed from scratch in Wix Studio, with the copy written, a first concept in 48 to 72 hours and launch in fourteen days. The Wix account is yours from the start. For how the platform compares on cost to its closest rival, the Squarespace designer cost guide is the sibling to this one.
Frequently asked questions
- How much does it cost to hire a Wix designer?
- $500–$2,500 for a marketplace freelancer to build a template site in the classic editor; $1,000–$10,000 for a Wix Partner agency building in Wix Studio; our fixed-price packages are $349–$1,299. Hourly, expect $50–$100 for freelancers and $75–$150 for agencies and Velo developers.
- Is Wix Studio more expensive than regular Wix?
- The editor is free and the plans are the same — Light $17, Core $29, Business $39, Business Elite $159 a month on annual billing. What costs more is the designer: Studio builds take longer and need more skill, so quotes run roughly 1.5 to 3 times a classic-editor quote for the same site.
- How much does Wix cost per month in 2026?
- $17 (Light), $29 (Core), $39 (Business) or $159 (Business Elite) a month on annual billing, per Wix's plans page at the time of writing; monthly billing is higher. Core is the cheapest plan that accepts payments. Apps from the App Market add $5–$50 a month each.
- Should I hire a freelancer or an agency for a Wix site?
- A freelancer for a brochure site on a template under about $2,500; an agency, or a fixed-price studio like ours, when you need Studio-grade layouts, Velo code or a store set up properly. Either way the Wix account should be in your name with the designer as a collaborator.
- Can I move a Wix site to another platform later?
- You can move the content, not the site. Wix does not export working code or design, so leaving means rebuilding the layout on the new platform and migrating text and images by hand, with 301 redirects for every URL that changes.
