Shopify stores designed from scratch and built to sell — themes, custom sections, apps and migrations.
- 14-day standard build
- Fixed price, in writing
- You own everything
( The short version )
Shopify development, defined in one paragraph.
Shopify development is the design and build of a store on Shopify's hosted platform: a theme designed for your products, the sections your merchandising needs, the apps that are worth their monthly fee and the ones that are not. American Web Guild designs and builds Shopify stores for merchants in every US state from Sacramento, California. E-commerce packages are $600 for a store of up to 100 products, $1,394 for up to 500 and $3,694 for an unlimited catalogue with the full brand kit. A first store is live in 14 days; the homepage concept arrives free within 72 hours, no call needed; and the store, the theme files and the domain are yours.
Who it is for
- Product brands launching a first store, usually under 100 SKUs.
- Merchants outgrowing Etsy, Amazon-only or a Wix store.
- Established stores on an old Liquid theme that cannot be edited without a developer.
- Wholesale and B2B sellers who need tiered pricing or a trade portal.
- Shopify Plus merchants who need checkout extensibility work rather than a full rebuild.
( What you get )
BUILT IN, NOT BOLTED ON
Every Shopify build includes the following. If something you need is missing, it goes in the quote before work starts — not in an invoice after.
A theme designed from scratch on Online Store 2.0
Not Dawn with new colours. We design every template — home, collection, product, cart, blog, pages — then build it as JSON templates with sections and blocks your team rearranges from the theme editor without a developer.
Product pages that sell
Variant pickers that show stock and swatches, size guides, bundles, a sticky add-to-cart on mobile, reviews and shipping estimates placed where buyers hesitate. Metafields carry the specs so the layout stays consistent across hundreds of products.
Fewer apps, lower monthly bill
Stores we inherit often carry a dozen apps, half of them doing what Liquid, metafields or Shopify Flow do for free. We build those in and keep the apps that earn their fee: reviews, subscriptions, search.
Checkout and payments configured properly
Shopify Payments, Shop Pay, PayPal and Apple Pay enabled; tax settings per state; shipping zones and rates tested against real addresses; abandoned-checkout emails written in your voice rather than Shopify's default.
Collections, filters and search that match how people shop
Automated collections from tags and metafields, Search & Discovery filters by size, colour and price, and merchandising rules so the best sellers lead every collection page.
Speed on Shopify's terms
Liquid renders on Shopify's servers; the front end is where stores slow down. We ship lean sections, lazy media and no render-blocking app scripts, and we check the Web Performance dashboard before launch.
Custom Shopify apps when a plugin will not do
A private app for a pricing rule, a wholesale portal, an ERP sync or a quote builder, built on the Admin API and installed only on your store. The source code is yours.
Email, analytics and the sales channels
Shopify Email templates designed to match the store, Google and Meta pixels through the Customer Events API, the Shop channel and the Google & YouTube channel connected so the catalogue syncs on its own.
A handover your staff can use
A recorded walkthrough on your store: adding products, swapping a homepage section, running a discount. Our collaborator access is removed at the end, so only you hold the keys.
( Honest fit )
When Shopify is the right call — and when it isn’t.
Pick Shopify when
- You sell physical or digital products and want checkout, tax and payments handled by a platform with a 24/7 support line.
- Your team will manage products and promotions themselves and needs a theme editor, not a developer.
- You want the app ecosystem — reviews, subscriptions, loyalty — ready to plug in.
- You are on Wix, Squarespace Commerce or WooCommerce and the cart is where sales leak.
We’d point you elsewhere when
- Your catalogue is a handful of services or bookings, not products. A WordPress or Webflow site with a booking tool is simpler and carries no monthly platform fee.
- You need content-heavy pages — long articles, resource libraries, a magazine — alongside a small shop. WooCommerce on WordPress handles editorial far better than Shopify's blog.
- Your pricing logic, configurator or marketplace model does not fit a cart. That is custom web development, possibly with Shopify as the headless checkout behind it.
( How it works )
Fourteen days, four stages, no mystery.
- Day 0–1
Brief. A short form or a 20-minute call. We ask what you sell, who buys it, and what a lead is worth.
On ShopifyWe review your catalogue, shipping and tax setup before quoting, and tell you which Shopify plan you need — most new stores start on Basic.
- Day 2–3
Free concept. You get a custom homepage design. No payment yet. This is the decision point — approve, revise, or walk.
On ShopifyThe homepage concept comes with a product page and a collection page sketched, because on a store those three templates decide the sale.
- Day 4–10
Build. Remaining pages designed, copy written, everything coded. One shared link, updated live, so you're never waiting on an email.
On ShopifyDevelopment happens on an unpublished theme in your own store, so you click through real products while your current site keeps selling.
- Day 11–14
Review & launch. Two rounds of revisions, testing across devices, analytics installed, then live. You get the walkthrough video the same day.
On ShopifyTest orders through every payment method, shipping rates checked against real addresses, redirects from old URLs imported, then the theme is published and the old one archived.
Day 15+ 30 days of unlimited changes, included. Then a care plan if you want one.

The E-Commerce tiers are the design and build price. Shopify's own subscription is billed by Shopify: the Basic plan is $39 a month on monthly billing, and card processing rates vary by plan and payment provider. Paid apps are the other recurring cost, which is why the theme is designed to need as few of them as possible.
Not in the tier price
- Shopify plan from $39/mo (Basic, monthly billing), billed by Shopify
- Card processing and any third-party transaction fees, set by Shopify and your payment provider
- Paid apps you choose to keep — reviews, subscriptions, loyalty — billed by their developers
- Rush delivery, +$500
( Migrations )
Moving to Shopify — or away from it — without losing what ranks.
- WooCommerce
- Products, variants, customers and order history exported via CSV or the Store Importer; the SEO-critical URLs mapped with Shopify's URL redirects so /product/slug keeps ranking. Payment gateways are re-authorised on the Shopify side.
- Wix or Squarespace Commerce
- Both export product CSVs but not the design or customers' saved payment details. We rebuild the store, import the catalogue, and recreate discount codes and shipping rules by hand before the domain switches.
- Magento, BigCommerce or a custom cart
- Catalogue and customer data mapped field by field, with metafields created for attributes Shopify does not carry natively. Larger catalogues move in batches over a weekend so nothing is half-migrated on a Monday.
- An old Shopify theme
- A rebuild on Online Store 2.0 inside the same store: no data moves, URLs stay, the app list is audited and the ones you no longer need are uninstalled before they bill again.

SHOPIFY, EXPLAINED
Our Shopify design and build packages are published: $600 for a store of up to 100 products, $1,394 for up to 500 products with a brand kit, and $3,694 for an unlimited catalogue with everything handed over. Shopify's subscription is separate — the Basic plan is $39 a month on monthly billing — and any paid apps you keep are billed by their developers. Full e-commerce cost breakdown.
Yes, and for most merchants it is the right call: a store built by people who do it weekly launches faster and avoids the app sprawl that slows self-built stores down. Send your product list and any current site; we design the homepage free within 72 hours, and a first store is live within 14 days. You hold the Shopify account; we work as a collaborator and remove our access at handover.
For selling physical products, yes. Hosting, security, PCI compliance, checkout and payments are handled, the app ecosystem covers almost every need, and the platform keeps adding features your store gets without a rebuild. The trade-off is the monthly fee and transaction costs, which only hurt when margins are thin. For a service business or a content-first site, it is the wrong tool.
Only if you are on Shopify Plus, which is aimed at high-volume merchants. Plus unlocks checkout extensibility, Shopify Functions and B2B features that need developer work to use well. If you are on Basic, Shopify or Advanced, you need a Shopify developer, not a Plus specialist — and the theme and app work is the same craft. We build on every plan.
Fourteen days for a store of up to 100 products: brief on day one, homepage concept by day three, theme built on an unpublished copy through day ten, test orders and launch by day fourteen. Catalogues over 500 products, migrations from another platform and custom apps add one to three weeks, and the date goes in the quote.
Yes. From WooCommerce, Wix, Squarespace, BigCommerce or Magento, we move products, variants, images, customers and order history, recreate discounts and shipping rules, and map every old URL to its new one with 301 redirects so search rankings carry over. The old store keeps selling until the Shopify store passes test orders; then the domain switches.
Yes. The theme is built with sections and blocks, so the homepage, collection pages and landing pages are rearranged from Shopify's theme editor with no code. Products, discounts and shipping are standard Shopify admin. We record the walkthrough on your store, and 30 days of unlimited changes are included after launch. Who owns the store, and why it matters.
Yes, when a published app does not exist or would cost more over time than building the feature. Typical examples are wholesale pricing tiers, a quote builder, an ERP or inventory sync and custom discount logic. Apps are built as private custom apps installed only on your store, and the source code is yours.
