How Much Does It Cost to Migrate to Shopify? (WooCommerce, Wix, Squarespace)

What it costs to migrate a store to Shopify in 2026 from WooCommerce, Wix or Squarespace — migration tools, design, redirects, what carries over and what does not, the three-year stay-versus-move total, and when the move pays.

How Much Does It Cost to Migrate to Shopify? (WooCommerce, Wix, Squarespace) — American Web Guild guide card

( The Short Answer )

Migrating to Shopify costs $300–$2,500 for the data alone with a tool like LitExtension or Cart2Cart, $2,000–$10,000 for a simple store done by an agency with design and redirects, and $10,000–$50,000 for a large catalogue with integrations; our fixed-price migrations are $600, $1,394 or $3,694 by catalogue size. Most take 30–60 days. A migration is a replatform, so plan it like one — the website redesign guide has the five stages.

A Shopify migration is three projects wearing one invoice: moving the data, rebuilding the storefront, and protecting the search traffic the old store earned. Quotes vary by 20x because they include different numbers of those three. The $79 tool and the $40,000 agency are both telling the truth about different jobs.

This is the cost and decision layer — what each part costs in 2026, what you lose from each source platform, and the three-year maths of staying versus moving. The how-to is in the redesign SEO checklist; the ownership questions are in who owns your website.

The three costs in every migration

  1. Data. Products, variants, images, customers and orders. Cheap to move, and the part most quotes mean by 'migration'.
  2. Storefront. Nothing about your old design moves. Themes, templates and layouts are rebuilt on Shopify, so this is a redesign and priced like one — the redesign cost guide has the tiers.
  3. Redirects and SEO. Every URL that changes needs a 301, and on Shopify most of them change. This is the cheapest part to do and the most expensive to skip.

Migration cost by source platform

Typical 2026 cost to migrate a small-to-mid store to Shopify, by where it starts. Tool prices from LitExtension and Cart2Cart; project ranges from 2026 agency pricing guides.
FromData migrationStorefront + redirectsTypical totalWhat does not move
WooCommerceTool from $79 (LitExtension) or $69 (Cart2Cart), priced per product, customer and order; $300 – $2,500 for most catalogues; Shopify's free Store Importer for small ones$1,500 – $8,000$2,000 – $10,000; $10,000 – $50,000 with ERP, subscriptions or B2BTheme, plugins and their data (reviews, subscriptions), customer passwords
WixTool or CSV export; $200 – $1,500$1,500 – $6,000$1,700 – $7,500Design, Wix apps, booking data, blog formatting, customer passwords
SquarespaceCSV product export; $200 – $1,500$1,500 – $6,000$1,700 – $7,500Design, store pages, member areas, digital products, customer passwords

LitExtension's migration pricing and Cart2Cart's pricing are both entity-based: the bill rises with the number of products, customers and orders, and add-ons for preserving IDs, re-syncing recent orders and generating redirects run roughly $50–$150 each. For a small WooCommerce catalogue, Shopify's own Store Importer is free. Agency-led totals come from WeArePresta's 2026 migration pricing breakdown — $2,000–$10,000 for simple catalogues, $10,000–$50,000 for complex ones — and Ringly's WooCommerce-to-Shopify playbook puts most projects at 30 to 60 days end to end.

One line is the same for all three: customer passwords never migrate. Every customer resets theirs on first login. Tell them before launch, not after.

What you keep and what you lose

  • Keep: product data, images, customer records, order history (fully on WooCommerce, partially on Wix and Squarespace), your domain, and your content.
  • Lose: the design, every plugin or app and its data, your URL structure (Shopify forces /products/, /collections/ and /pages/), and any reviews not exported and re-imported through a Shopify app.
  • Lose quietly: the SEO value of pages nobody redirected, and the blog formatting on Wix and Squarespace, which exports as plain text with images detached.

That middle bullet is why a migration should be planned as a redesign. If the storefront is being rebuilt anyway, it is the moment to fix what was wrong with it — but it is also the moment rankings are most at risk.

Three-year total: stay or move

Three-year cost of a small store, 2026: staying on the current platform versus migrating to Shopify Basic (annual billing, $348 a year) with $50–$300 a month in apps. Card processing excluded on all rows.

Read it honestly: a move rarely pays for itself on running cost alone. Shopify is not cheaper than WooCommerce to run and is more expensive than Squarespace. It pays when the current platform is costing you orders — a checkout that fails on mobile, a plugin stack that breaks monthly, a store that cannot do subscriptions or POS — or when the maintenance bill on WooCommerce has become a second salary.

When migrating pays, and when it does not

Move when

  • WooCommerce updates break the store more than once a quarter, and someone is being paid to fix it.
  • You need POS, multi-channel selling or a checkout the current platform cannot provide.
  • The catalogue has outgrown Wix or Squarespace — hundreds of SKUs with variants, or B2B pricing.
  • You are redesigning anyway. A redesign on the old platform and a migration cost about the same; only one of them fixes the platform.

Stay when

  • The store works, converts, and the only complaint is the platform's reputation.
  • Your WooCommerce site is content-first and the store is secondary; WordPress is still the better blog.
  • You have under 30 products on Squarespace or Wix and no plans to grow the catalogue. The move costs more than three years of the plan.

Hire a migration, or do it yourself

Doing it yourself is realistic for a Wix or Squarespace store under about 30 products: export the CSV, import through Shopify's importer, pick a theme, rebuild the pages, and write the redirects by hand in Shopify's URL redirect tool. Budget 20 to 40 hours. For WooCommerce with order history, variants and plugin data, or any store with meaningful organic traffic, hire — the tool handles the data in an afternoon, but the redirect map and the storefront are where migrations fail, and both are skilled work.

How we price a Shopify migration

We price a migration as a store build at the tier your catalogue fits — $600 for up to 100 products, $1,394 for up to 500, $3,694 for unlimited — with the data import, a custom storefront design and the redirect map included rather than itemised. The prices are published, the store, domain and apps are in your name from the start, and the first design concept arrives in 48 to 72 hours so you see the new storefront before anything moves. Our Shopify development page has the full scope; the Shopify website cost guide covers what the store costs to run after launch.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to migrate from WooCommerce to Shopify?
$300–$2,500 for the data with a migration tool, $2,000–$10,000 for a simple store done by an agency including storefront and redirects, and $10,000–$50,000 for large catalogues with subscriptions, B2B or ERP integrations. Our fixed tiers are $600, $1,394 and $3,694 by catalogue size.
How long does a Shopify migration take?
Most take 30 to 60 days end to end. The data moves in hours; the storefront rebuild, redirect map, testing and customer communication take the rest. A small Wix or Squarespace store can move in one to two weeks.
What cannot be migrated to Shopify?
The design and theme, plugins or apps and their data, customer passwords (every customer resets), and your URL structure — Shopify uses /products/, /collections/ and /pages/. Reviews, subscriptions and bookings need Shopify apps and a separate import.
Will migrating to Shopify hurt my SEO?
It can if URLs are not redirected. Shopify changes most product and category URLs, so every old URL needs a 301 to its new one before launch. With a complete redirect map and the same page copy and titles, rankings typically dip briefly and recover within two to eight months.
Is it cheaper to stay on WooCommerce or move to Shopify?
Over three years, staying is usually cheaper in cash: Shopify's plan and apps run $2,800–$11,800 against WooCommerce's hosting and plugins at $2,000–$12,000, plus the migration itself. Moving pays when WooCommerce maintenance is costing real money or the platform is losing you orders.
Can I migrate from Wix or Squarespace to Shopify myself?
For under about 30 products, yes: export products as CSV, import through Shopify's Store Importer, choose a theme, rebuild the pages and add redirects in Shopify's URL redirect tool. Budget 20–40 hours. Order history and member or booking data largely do not move.
